This February, as part of our YPI Programme Officer Spotlight campaign, we are excited to introduce Laura who works with schools in Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian, and Scottish Borders.
How would you describe YPI in three words?
Inspiring, empowering, collaborative.
What do you enjoy the most about your job?
I love getting out on the road and visiting all my schools. From meeting with teachers and hearing all their amazing plans for their YPI programmes, to seeing the finished product when young people advocate so passionately for their charities at finals – it all makes the job so enjoyable and rewarding!
What does YPI mean to you?
YPI is all about giving young people the opportunity to make real change in their communities. It is amazing to see all the skills young people develop by taking part in the programme and the connections they make with their charities.
I love hearing the impact the grant has for local charities and it is great when young people stay engaged with their charities after the programme by volunteering or fundraising.
What is your favourite YPI memory?
The 2023 National Event at the Perth Concert Hall. It was my second day in the job, and I was so wowed by all the young people standing up on stage and sharing a cause they care about in so many unique and powerful ways. I knew I was getting involved with something special then!
Interesting/ fun fact about you
I love Eurovision and was lucky enough to see it live in Lisbon in 2018.
