YPI Programme Officer Spotlight: Rebecca

We are very excited to kick off our YPI Programme Officer Spotlight campaign. Each month, we will introduce a dedicated Programme Officer, starting with Rebecca who works with schools in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Angus, and Moray.

How would you describe YPI in three words?

Inspiring, empowering and engaging.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

There are so many parts of my job that I love but it has to be attending charity fairs and seeing young people engage with local charities to find out what is available in their community and how they support social issues. I really enjoy facilitating final showcases at schools too. Getting to see the work and the journeys young people have been on through YPI and how passionate they have become is inspiring.

What does YPI mean to you?

That’s easy! I believe it’s very important for young people to connect with their community. YPI gives young people the opportunity to be #drivingchange in what really matters to them.

What is your favourite YPI memory?

So many memories! A highlight for me is seeing all the incredible young people standing up on the stage at the National Event in Perth Concert Hall in front of hundreds of people advocating for causes that they are passionate about.

Interesting/ fun fact about you

In my spare time I really enjoy volunteering for local charities. I have done two abseils, hosted a brass band concert and my wish is to do a skydive! I volunteer as a pony leader for a charity that provides riding opportunities for individuals with disabilities. I also volunteer as a watch leader for a youth work and sail training charity. I have met so many friends through volunteering and had some amazing experiences, with hopefully many more to come.
