This January, as part of our YPI Programme Officer Spotlight campaign, we are excited to introduce Steve who works with schools in the Highlands.
How would you describe YPI in three words?
Transformative, empowering, joyous.
What do you enjoy the most about your job?
It is fantastic seeing so many passionate young people discovering more about their local community and doing what they can to make a real difference. As I cover the Highlands, I also get to see the most amazing scenery as I travel to my schools.
What does YPI mean to you?
YPI is all about empowering young people so they realise they have the potential to make a real difference to the lives of others.
What is your favourite YPI memory?
My favourite memory is from before I became part of the YPI team. As a Head Teacher, watching a young person who had serious behavioural issues become passionate about a charity and doing everything they could to try to win the £3,000 grant was incredibly emotional. It reminds you that each and every young person just needs the right opportunity to unlock their passion.
Interesting/ fun fact about you
While not travelling the Highlands supporting my YPI schools, I really enjoy Indian cookery and try to make as many authentic dishes as possible.
